UCI 'Cross Race

okay... so sometime soon i need to start having some GOOD luck with 'cross this year... because the UCI race at centennial park was another bad luck race. I felt really sick on the thursday before the race... "Don't think that you're racing on saturday after being sick a few days ago"... "Yes dear".... so i missed saturday which is more my style of race. Sunday goes on a nice day and a pretty good start... well 300m... until there's a crash around a blind high speed corner which catches a lot of us... get my bars tangled with someone else and then start again in 2nd last spot and a long ways back... but i was feeling good so i started working with Paul Green to catch up... got up to 7th and could see 5th and 6th coming back to me pretty quick... Not sure if i blinked, stopped thinking or a few brain synapses failed.... "ok Barnes... still gaining on them, should have them with 1 to go" WHAM.... "Hey... why is my bike way up there and i'm laying on the ground? What's wrong with my rear shifter? I guess i'm running single speed now".... so i got caught again by Dermont and Green... but finished okay in 9th spot... Good news is i felt really good for the race... Bad news is that i still can't find a rear shifter and had to go flat-bar MTB style for the next couple races. Feeling pretty good right now getting ready for Barrie and then Provs in Ottawa... time to give Peter Mogg a run for his money :)....
